Large crews are rare. A yacht skipper is often expected to handle navigation, watchkeeping, maintenance and basic repairs independently.

Skipper Salary

Daily rates depend on the country and the type of work. In Greece, for example, a regular crew member earns from 120 euros per day, while a yacht skipper may earn up to 200 euros per day.

This income may seem attractive, but yachting is seasonal. Most skippers try to earn enough during a few active months to support themselves for the rest of the year.

Although yachts can technically be moved year-round in the Mediterranean, winter deliveries are less common and depend heavily on weather conditions.

How to Find Yacht Skipper Jobs

Skipper jobs are rarely advertised publicly. In countries like Greece, most positions are filled through personal contacts and recommendations.

However, specialized yacht crew websites in English are still the best starting point. Delivery jobs and short-term contracts appear there regularly.

Forums and sailing communities can also help, but trust is key. Many sailors call themselves a yacht skipper after short courses, so real experience and reputation make the difference.
